March CED Challenge: Dreams #1

March's Creative Every Day theme is DREAMS. I created this visualization board several years ago.  It's full of my dreams for the future.  Do you have one too?  If not...try creating one for yourself.  All it takes is a flat surface and some magazine clippings.  

A few words from Leah on the Dream theme... 

"How can you use this theme in your creations? Well, you could use the previous themes to help you brainstorm by getting playful and writing all the ways you could interpret the theme. Or perhaps you will dream something up?

If you need some suggestions, I will be posting about the theme throughout the month. Here are a few ideas to get you started. You could:

• Keep a dream journal
• Use your dreams (or nightmares) as the basis for art
• Read about artists who used dreams as a source of inspiration
• Explore your dreams for the future in a dream board
• Practice Dreaming Big
• Turn your dreams into poems
• Play with visualizations to spark your creativity

How to use the themes:

If you're feeling creatively stuck or blocked at any point during the month, use the theme as a source of inspiration to get you moving. 

Using the theme is entirely optional for CED participants. Use it if it inspires you, ignore it if it doesn't. I'll be sharing posts throughout the month around the theme (among other things) to get you thinking about how to incorporate it into your life. I'd love to hear how you use the theme in your creative world.

Feel free to focus on the theme in your creative activities for the entire month or as much as you'd like.

Feb CED Challenge: Words #3

So my beloved Uncle Greg offered up a divine idea!  He suggested I write a post on commonly mispronounced words.  Loving it!!  So let's include our favorite mispronounced words -AND- favorite misuse of grammar or misuse of words and sayings in general.

Let's see.  I'll start with these below. Feel free to comment and add your Words Gone Wrong pet peeves.  I know you have some!!  Yeah, I'm talkin' to you.  I know there are some grammar wordie buffs out there. 

*Supposebbly vs. supposedly

*Prostrate vs. prostate...which are actually both words, but often used incorrectly (this is my sister Janet's big nerve grinder)

*It drives me batty when people use "seen" instead of "saw".  Example: "I seen Betty down at the ball field today."  To me..there's nothing more redneck then saying I seen something.  Ugh.

*I have a really funny memory of my mom saying someone had "scoliosis of the liver."  Then she was like..."No, no.  I mean psoriasis of the liver." ...my sisters and I just about wet our pants!  What she meant was cirrhosis of the liver.  Too funny!

*My mom used to have a co-worker who got her sayings confused.  For example..when someone went too far or broke the rules, she would say that they "crossed the line of scrimmage." That lady always gave us a chuckle with her reinvented sayings.

Wow!  I am Big Mama Slack on the blogging this week.  Just haven't had much to say, I guess.  Ya, right!?!?  More like tired and full of allergy ridden nights. 

For my next Creative Every Day Words Challenge, I've been thinking of my favorite words.  Eventually, I'll create a collage that includes all of these words below.  But for now...check these out.  What are your favorite words?  Start using them more often if you can.  And teach those youngins good words too.  Fancy Nancy is a great place to start.  I just love her!  Wish she was around when I was a lil lady.

Creative Every Day Challenge 2009

   

Alrighty....who's ready to stir things up this month?  I'm joining a group called Creative Every Day 2009, by Leah Piken Kolidas.  Would anyone like to do it with me?  If so...click here to learn more and join the fun.  The best part is - you don't need a blog to participate!  You can join the CED Flickr group to post pictures of what you're doing and/or you can leave comments on Leah's blog with updates.

A few words from Leah....

"Creativity is meant in the broadest sense, so it doesn't have to be something art related. Your creative acts could be in cooking, taking pictures, knitting, doodling, writing, dancing, decorating, singing, playing with your kids, brainstorming ideas, gardening, or making art in the form of collage, paint, or clay...or whatever!

You do not have to post every day! I know for myself that having to post every day for a year would be too much. You can post about your creativity in whatever form you like, whether that be once a day, a few times a week, once a week, or once a month. Do what works for you! 

This is a low pressure challenge, with the idea of bringing more creativity into our lives. I will not be the creativity police. I hope that we can all find ways, simple and grand to express our creative selves. Have fun with it!"
